About this model
Umbra Noir — Monochrome Cinema Checkpoint
A monochrome cinema checkpoint — deep blacks, silver highlights and true film-noir tonality, standalone.
Umbra Noir is a full checkpoint built entirely for black-and-white: a rich tonal curve from crushed shadow to specular silver, hard directional light, venetian-blind shadow play and the grain of pushed monochrome stock. No desaturation trick — it composes in tone, so contrast and shape do the storytelling.
This is a complete, standalone checkpoint. Unlike a LoRA, it needs no separate base model — load it directly as your base and generate.

Uses
Direct use. Noir and dramatic B&W photography, moody portraits, film-still key art, and any project that lives in tone rather than colour.
Out of scope. Anything that needs colour — this checkpoint renders monochrome by construction and colour prompts have almost no effect.
Recommended settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Sampler | DPM++ 2M Karras |
| Steps | 30–36 |
| CFG scale | 5–7 |
| Resolution | 1024×1024 (to 1536 long edge) |
black and white film still, detective under a single hard key light, venetian blind shadows, deep blacks, silver highlights, 35mm grain
Higher steps than usual pay off here — the shadow gradients need them to stay smooth. Keep a strong directional light in the prompt; flat lighting wastes the tonal range.
- Strengths — high-contrast noir portraits; dramatic shadow-play scenes; film-still and title-card key art.
- Weaknesses — colour work of any kind; soft, low-contrast lighting.

Training details
A full fine-tune over ~70k licensed and public-domain monochrome photographs and film stills, tone-curve normalised so the checkpoint learned lighting and contrast rather than any single stock.
Procedure. A full fine-tune of wan 2.2 (not an adapter), fp16, multi-stage: a broad concept pass followed by an aesthetic refinement pass on a hand-scored subset. VAE was fine-tuned and baked into the checkpoint.
Bias, risks and limitations
- Very large checkpoint (~6.5 GB).
- Monochrome only — do not expect any usable colour output.
- Extreme low-key scenes can lose subject separation; add a rim light in the prompt.
License & provenance
A full fine-tune on licensed and public-domain monochrome imagery. Purchasing the commercial offer ($349.00) grants a commercial redistribution license for outputs; the personal offer ($69.00) is for non-commercial use. The checkpoint may not be resold or re-uploaded, and merges must credit this model.
